Within the Oak Crest Middle School Physical Education Department, our goal is to provide a high-quality, standards-based, and comprehensive physical education program, to prepare every student for a lifetime of physical activity, health, and well-being.
The core physical education program stresses development of skills and fitness through a wide variety of activities. This course is designed to be a part of a continuous process to meet the following goals of physical education, including:
- Physical Activity - Physical Fitness - Movement Skills and Knowledge - Social Development and interaction - Positive Self-Image - Individual Excellence - Lifelong Fitness and Healthy Habits - Personal Responsibility.
Wellness Not only is the importance of physical fitness supported in our program, but we also emphasize student wellness, which includes:
-Social A student who is positively engaged in the school culture and surrounding community.
-Emotional A student who builds and fosters emotional awareness while relating to others in a positive way.
-Physical A student who has the knowledge to live a healthy lifestyle through physical activity and understanding the importance of following proper nutritional practices.
-Intellectual A student who engages in expanding their knowledge and skills in a variety of tasks while demonstrating the ability to share this knowledge with others.
#1 - Students demonstrate the motor skills and movement patterns needed to perform a variety of physical activities. #2 - Students demonstrate knowledge of movement concepts, principles, and strategies that apply to the learning and performance of physical activities #3 - Students assess and maintain a level of physical fitness to improve health and performance. #4 - Students demonstrate knowledge of physical fitness concepts, principles, and strategies to improve health and performance.
Physical Fitness Testing occurs during the Spring semester and is required for grade 7. A study of results in the 2015/2016 school year showed that 3% of General PE students did not pass the State Fitness Testing, as compared to 17% of ISPE students who did not pass.
